What is auto insurance?

Auto insurance helps protect you and your family against financial loss in case of accident or other cause of loss. It covers injuries and damages caused by an accident for which you are legally responsible. You can also cover the cost of repairing or replacing your vehicle if it is damaged or stolen.

What if I have no car insurance?

In most states, you are required to pay a minimum amount of liability insurance (or bond) and provide proof of insurance before you leave your vehicle or renew your driver’s license. If you are caught driving without auto insurance, you may have to pay a large fine, have your driver’s license suspended, and / or your vehicle impounded. Another type of policy that is often required is auto insurance. Most states require by law that you have basic auto insurance. While it may be a law, too many people still drive around without it.

The most common reason to have auto insurance is to cover the replacement of an expensive asset. Like a home, automobiles can be quite expensive and if it gets damaged you want to be able to repair or replace it. But there is more to auto insurance than just covering the car itself.
